Catch, Click and Release

Swanfish is a catch and release only event. There is nothing more important than the sustainability of our favourite fish species and the 'catch, click and release' approach will ensure the impact we have during Swanfish remains low forever. Please read the instructions below on submitting a photo of your fish.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CATCH, CLICK AND RELEASE!
Swanfish is pleased to partner with the Track My Fish app, through which all catch, click and release entries can be made.

  1. Download the Swanfish App by searching for 'Swanfish' in the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Register your details on the app
  3. Select Swanfish 2019 from the list of events and press enter, you are now set up to log your catches
  4. Go fishing and catch a fish (this part is really important!)
  5. Once you have landed your fish, place it on either a Department of Fisheries ruler or a similar device capable of showing the length of your fish (brag mats and plastic rulers are acceptable). Try and avoid placing the fish on a hot surface or where sand can damage it's eyes. Laying the fish on a wet rag, using wet hands is best practice.
  6. Ensure that the nose of the fish is aligned with the '0' mark on your measuring device.
  7. IMPORTANT: Details of what to show in the photo as proof of capture on the competition day will be emailed to competitors at 9:00am Saturday 23rd Feb
  8. Take the photo (using either the Swanfish app or your phones camera app) in a manner by which both the length of the fish can be identified by Swanfish officials. Taking the photo directly above the fish is best. Please see the examples below for suitable photos. Please feel free to also take a photo holding the fish and upload to social media using the #Swanfish.
  9. Release the fish immediately after the photo is taken.
  10. Use the Swanfish App to log the capture. Full instructions on doing so can be found by watching this youtube video: HERE
  11. All particpants must attend the weigh in on Sunday morning to be eligible to claim a prize.

Recfishwest and Fishability look forward to making your Swanfish experience the best ever!
